Near infrared medical imaging uses near infrared light between 650-900 nm and enables visualization of anatomical structures or molecular signatures in the human body with high resolution. It has advantages over traditional medical imaging as it provides functional and molecular information and causes no damage to living tissues. It is finding wide applications in tumor detection, burn wound inspection, plastic surgery and cosmetic surgeries.
